The fourth round of Formula 2, which is being held at the legendary Silverstone Circuit, started in the best possible way for Felipe Drugovich, who competes for the Dutch team MP Motorsport. This Friday, the Brazilian driver scored an impeccable lap in the qualifying session, guaranteeing pole position for this Saturday's race (8/1) and becoming the fourth driver to start in the first position in four rounds in the category.
Highlight in his debut season in Formula 2, Felipe Drugovich had been third in the free practice in the category on Friday, which had already left the driver and his team quite optimistic.
Usually split in two for the sake of driver and team strategy, the first part of the qualifying session relatively "warm" for Felipe Drugovich, who was positioned among the seven fastest drivers.
After stopping to put the second set of tires, Felipe Drugovich, very quickly, set the best time in the last two sectors and also an awesome lap, with 1: 39.527, guaranteeing his first pole position in Formula 2 - and also the first pole position for MP Motorsport in the category.
Winner of Sunday's race on his first weekend in Formula 2, Austria in early July, the driver from Maringá (PR) is the first Brazilian in pole position and win in his debut season in the last 20 years in Formula One 3000 and GP2, categories that preceded Formula 2. The last Brazilians to achieve this feat were Ricardo Sperafico and Antônio Pizzonia, in 2001, in Formula 3000.
With the four points he earned for taking pole position, Felipe Drugovich now adds up to 35, thus taking the sixth position in the leaderboard among 22 drivers from all over the world.
“It was too good. We were able to work a lot on the car in those first three weeks and understand what we needed to adjust. We had tested a lot of things, but we still hadn’t managed to maximize it all. I think that now we put everything together, and that made the car setup and also my driving management to get close to perfection”, said Felipe Drugovich after the unprecedented pole position. “Tomorrow is another day. I'll start the race in peace from the best position. I hope to have a good balance in the car to stay ahead and win again”, finished.
Formula 2 races this Saturday and Sunday will be broadcast on the Formula 1 YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/c/F1
